Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or oil.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together 200 grams of all-purpose flour (maida), 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.

In another bowl, cream together 100 grams of softened unsalted butter and 150 grams of powdered sugar until light and fluffy.

Add 2 large eggs, one at a time, to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition.

Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with 100 ml of milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
