Peel and grate 500 grams of potatoes. Place the grated potatoes in a clean cloth and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
In a large bowl, mix the grated potatoes with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of red chili powder (optional).
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Shape the potato mixture into small, cylindrical tots, approximately 2-3 cm in length and 1 cm in diameter.
In a separate bowl, mix 50 grams of cornstarch and 50 grams of breadcrumbs. Roll each tater tot in the cornstarch-breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Place the coated tater tots on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each tot.
Bake the tater tots in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Flip the tots halfway through the baking time to ensure even cooking.
Remove the tater tots from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.
