Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 20 cm (8-inch) round cake pan with butter or oil.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 200 grams of all-purpose flour (maida), 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well and set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together 200 grams of softened unsalted butter and 200 grams of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add 4 eggs, one at a time, to the butter-sugar mixture, whisking well after each addition.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
