Wash and soak 100 grams of chana dal in water for 1-2 hours.
Rinse 250 grams of French beans and cut them into 1-inch pieces.
In a pressure cooker, add the soaked chana dal, French beans, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, and salt to taste. Add 1.5 cups of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is cooked but not mushy.
In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1/4 teaspoon of asafoetida, and 1-2 chopped green chilies. Sauté for a few seconds.
Add 1 finely chopped onion and cook until it turns golden brown.
Add 1 chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.
Add the cooked chana dal and French beans mixture to the pan. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
