Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat.

Sauté 1 cup of chopped onion and 4 minced garlic cloves in the oil for 5 minutes.

Stir in 3/8 cup of red wine, 1 tablespoon of white sugar, and 1 tablespoon of chopped basil.

Add 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.

Mix in 1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper.

Stir in 2 cans of peeled and diced tomatoes, and bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes.

Stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley.
