In a large saucepan, combine 1 litre of apple cider, 2 sticks of cinnamon, 4 cloves, and 2 star anise. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes to let the spices infuse their flavours into the cider.
After 10 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the mixture to remove the spices.
Stir in 240 ml of dark rum into the spiced cider.
Pour the Spiced Rum Cider into mugs, garnish with a cinnamon stick and an apple slice, and serve hot.
