Fill a deep pan with water up to 3/4th of its capacity and bring it to a simmer.

Add a teaspoon of vinegar to the simmering water. This helps the egg whites to coagulate quickly.

Crack an egg into a small bowl. Gently slide the egg into the simmering water.

Let the egg cook for about 3-4 minutes for a runny yolk or 5-6 minutes for a more set yolk.

Using a slotted spoon, gently lift the poached egg out of the water. Drain it on a kitchen towel to remove excess water.

Season with salt and pepper as per taste and serve immediately.
