Clean 500 grams of prawns and marinate them with 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and salt for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the masala paste. In a mixer, add 1 cup of grated coconut, 5 dried red chillies, 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 5 cloves of garlic, 1 inch of ginger, and a small ball of tamarind. Grind it to a smooth paste using a little water.
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
Add the ground masala paste to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes on medium heat.
Add 1 cup of water, salt to taste, and bring the curry to a boil.
Add the marinated prawns to the curry, cover the pan, and cook for about 10 minutes until the prawns are cooked.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
