Take 250 grams of gram flour (besan) in a bowl. Add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon of carom seeds (ajwain), a pinch of asafoetida (hing), and salt as per taste.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the mixture and mix well. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough.
Divide the dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a thin strip using a rolling pin.
Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide the rolled dough strips into the oil.
Fry the fafda on medium heat until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel.
Serve hot with green chutney or sweet jalebi.
