In a saucepan, add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
Add 1 teaspoon of grated ginger, 2 crushed green cardamom pods, 1 small cinnamon stick, 4-5 cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon of black peppercorns. Boil the mixture for 2-3 minutes to infuse the flavors of the spices.
Add 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves (or 2 tea bags) and 2 cups of milk to the saucepan. Stir well and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
Add 2 tablespoons of sugar or adjust according to your taste. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Strain the masala tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves.
Serve hot and enjoy your homemade masala chai.
