Peel and chop 2 ripe mangoes into small pieces. Measure 1 cup of chopped mangoes and set aside.
In a blender, add the 1 cup of chopped mangoes, 1 cup of chilled plain yogurt (dahi), 1/2 cup of chilled milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder.
Blend the mixture until smooth and creamy. If the lassi is too thick, add a little more milk and blend again.
Pour the mango lassi into serving glasses. Garnish with a few saffron strands or chopped nuts (optional) and serve chilled.
